You Won’t Believe This: Drones Are Now Helping Farmers Save Time and Money

Technology is steadily reshaping agriculture in Bangladesh, and drones are the latest game-changer. From harvesting machines to automated spraying, modern tools are replacing time-consuming traditional methods. Drone-based pesticide and fertilizer spraying has already started in parts of Narsingdi and Manikganj, offering farmers a quicker and more efficient alternative.

Using drones, pesticides can be applied evenly and in controlled amounts, reducing waste and health risks for farmers. Where manual spraying takes nearly two hours per bigha, drones complete the task in just three to five minutes. The cost is also significantly lower—Tk 200 to 300 per bigha compared to Tk 500 to 1,000 with laborers.

Currently, around 200 farmers are using drone services across 50–60 acres of land through local farming cooperatives. Companies like Genius Farms Limited and FlyMech say they aim to turn this into a sustainable business model by training farmer groups to operate drones at the village level, signaling a major shift toward tech-driven agriculture.
